BOOTH - U.K. REVENUES SPECIALISED
United Kingdom Revenues, with 800 pages of information on dies, dates of registration, shades, legal background. Published 1990, a major work so specialised it could never be rewritten.
Covers the UK proper, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, and does include Ireland under British rule. (The Irish section is sometimes missing from sets offered 2nd hand from other suppliers, as far fewer sets of the Irish section were printed). All types of revenue are included, both directly embossed, and adhesive, from 18th century to modern, and including the "sideline" issues such as National Insurance essays and trials, Paper Duty, Savings Banks and other items which are not listed elsewhere.
The importance of the book lies in the depth of coverage, with explanation of the laws which produced the stamps, dates of registration and issue, and very full coverage of the embossed types. Photo shows a sample page. Written by a barrister with a legal mind, therefore complex, but a detailed index helps find the information you need. If you collect UK revenues seriously, this is an essential book and is seldom available 2nd hand.1990 3rd edition (the last, and by far the biggest), loose-leaf format, punched for 4- ring binder, weight 2½kilos. It has to be just the full Booth pages (packed in a bundle, in correct order, and boxed). Offered this way in view of the extra cost and difficulties of safely mailing a loose-leaf binder. Out of print now; we may get 2nd hand examples from time to time. Leave an enquiry to get on the waiting list.
