Russian prestamp postmarks, numeral cancels, dated postmarks, telegraph offices, railway and steamship postmarks, field post offices and mute cancels of WWI, due cancels and instructional marks are all covered in this detailed study.
This first major work in English on the subject, by A.V. Kiryushkin and P.E. Robinson, is systematically presented with many illustrations. Knowledge of Russian is no longer needed to identify interesting postmarks such as field posts, royal household mail, village or rural offices, work camps etc, which at first glance may appear to be "just another" circular datestamp, yet which are important in telling the story of the Russian postal system and social conditions of the time (and consequently, in valuing a postal history cover at its true worth). Published some while ago but still one of our best selling books.
